By phone we mean "smartphone". It falls short as a smartphone, if that makes sense. Guess we should just be more clear about that sort of thing, since we didn't specifically just mean it as a device for making voice calls. Thanks!

Love the podcast! I do have a question concerning the N900 impressions. What exactly is wrong with the phone capabilities of the device? You both said it sucked as a phone. I am confused as I have had no problems making or receiving calls. Phone capabilities seem on par with iPhone and Android. In fact neither of the other phones have skype built in to the phone like the N900, which works incredibly well. All in all I think the phone is marginally better than most other phones. You pull up a contact and it gives you the choice to call, SMS, IM through any of the IMs you have enabled or Skype. Where the N900 falls way short is on apps. If this phone had half the apps of even Android it would be extremely compelling to general consumer. No phone browses the web like the N900! It is a pocketable netbook that makes calls. Oh and I would like to add the spacebar I actually find more useful offset. It lines up better with your right thumb when typing which once you get used to actually makes more sense than if it was centered on the keyboard. I agree wholeheartedly about the quality of this podcast. If there were a Pulitzer for tech journalism Peter and Ryan would definitely be top contenders. I tried Slidescreen on my Samsung Moment, but to me it was just like rearranging the deck chairs.

GDE gives you Gnome like environments mainly a cube and other effects. I didn't notice to bad of a battery hit with Flyscreen although there was some, mainly it was how bad it slowed everything down. In any case this is why I love android, if you don't like something you can always change it, ha!

Thanks! Haven't tried GDE yet, but have used both Ahome and Open Home. Also tried Flyscreen, which I like, but definitely takes a hit on the battery.

Awesome podcast, actually the first one I have ever listened to fully from any site, and I must say I agree with just about everything. Great job, going to be listening to a lot more now. Oh and have you tried GDE for Android, its not as slick as Slidescreen, but I love it as a home replacement app. Also Flyscreen does a great job of changing your lock screen into a combo RSS reader/message reader/twitter app, I love it but it bogged down my G1 so much.
